A case of avian influenza has been identified at Zootah in Willow Park.

On Thursday, another case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza was found in Cache County, this time at the Zootah site in Willow Park, requiring the zoo to shut for an indefinite period of time.

"We take exceptional care of our birds, and their health and well-being are of paramount significance to us." "We're taking steps to avoid interaction between wild birds and zoo animals, as well as any other potential contamination," the group posted on Facebook on Friday. "Because one of our birds has been diagnosed with this sickness, Zootah will be closed until further notice while we work with local and state authorities to safeguard the health and safety of our animals," says the statement.

Zootah is currently under state-ordered quarantine, according to a press statement from the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food. As soon as the case was established, the zoo was closed.

In a press release, Utah State Veterinarian Dean Taylor remarked, "The proprietors of Zootah quickly alerted our office of the diseased bird." "They worked closely with our office on developing their reaction plan and putting in place necessary quarantine procedures at their zoo."

Utah authorities verified an incident of HPAI at a Cache Valley farm earlier this week. The farm's location was not revealed, but The Herald Journal learnt that thousands of hens were being slaughtered at the farm to combat the sickness. The state's first case was verified in Utah County earlier this month.

Utah bird owners are recommended to be careful in screening for symptoms while following appropriate biosecurity standards, according to the announcement. High fatality rates in flocks, nasal discharge, reduced food or water intake, and lack of coordination in birds are all symptoms of HPAI. People are urged to contact the state veterinarian's office at statevet@utah.gov if their birds exhibit any of these symptoms.

One case of this strain of HPAI has been found in the United States, according to the press release, but the newest detections do not pose an imminent public health threat. As a basic food safety precaution, all chicken and eggs should be handled carefully and cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
